Approve Renewal Agreement for Educational Services and Facilities Usage with the City of Plant City for Fire Fighter Training by Learey Technical Center, 2007/2008 (Adult Technical Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Learey Technical Center initiated a fire fighter training program for the City of Plant City in 2005/2006.

The City of Plant City has requested renewal of the Agreement for Educational Services and Facilities Usage for the period July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008. Training will be provided annually to approximately 60 City of Plant City Fire Department employees in the areas of fire fighting science and techniques as well as emergency medical procedures at the City of Plant City Service Academy located at 604 East Alexander Street, Plant City, Florida. This Agreement for Educational Services and Facilities Usage is mutually beneficial for continuation of necessary fire fighter sciences training for the City of Plant City.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funding for the classes conducted for the fire department is included in the District's Workforce Education funding allocation; also tuition is collected for each student contact hour. Postsecondary Adult Vocational (PSAV) funds are provided for new recruits and Continuing Workforce Education (CWE) funds are provided for incumbent fire fighters. Additionally, the City of Plant City reimburses the District for one-half of the instructor salaries for their respective classes.

EVALUATION

Evaluation will be based on an analysis of the number of fire fighters trained and the number of Occupational Completion Points earned by June 30, 2008.
