Approve Agreements for Technical Services for Teacher Training Workshops in Secondary Mathematics (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We are requesting approval of the Agreements for Technical Services for the attached list of teachers to present training to current and potential teachers in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus to build their knowledge in the subject content.

Approximately 150 teachers will receive 30 hours of training specific to their subject for the new mathematics Sunshine Standards to plan, develop, and deliver curriculum materials and design lesson plans. Training will take place at King High School from July 9, 2007, through July 13, 2007.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of five percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $8,084.15 are included in the staff development budget for Secondary Education, Project 4502.

EVALUATION

May 2008. Student responses to semester and final exam questions specific to the new standards will be analyzed, and feedback will be provided to teachers and department heads. Based on the feedback, instructional delivery and curriculum materials will be modified.
