Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for 6-12 MATHEMATICS Education (Middle School Education and Secondary Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We are requesting approval to adopt the recommended flexibility instructional materials selected for 6-12 Mathematics Education as primary textbooks for the I CAN Learn courses. The instructional materials shown on the attached memorandum from Janet Boatman, Supervisor, Middle School Mathematics, and Michael Smith, Supervisor, Secondary Mathematics, were reviewed according to District guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include:
- The District FLEX textbook selection committee is trained in the instructional materials evaluation process.
- The FLEX Committee reviews and evaluates submissions using the Florida Department of Education instructional materials evaluation packet.
- The FLEX Committee through a consensus vote recommends instructional materials to be placed on the FLEX list for purchase.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of five percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated cost of the primary textbooks over the next five years for the I CAN Learn courses is $103,730.
