SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Dr. Stephen Peters in Conjunction with the HOPE Foundation to Provide A Speaking Engagement for Administrators (Student Services & Federal Programs Division and Information & Technology Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The School District is aware of the need for cultural awareness in our schools. Dr. Stephen Peters will discuss the subject of cultural awareness. He is an inspiring author who exemplifies the fundamental importance of building relationships with students. Dr. Peters motivates administrators to encourage their teachers to work toward becoming the best teachers possible by giving them ideas on how to "connect" with their students. Dr. Peters will present to approximately 225 principals and assistant principals at Armwood High School on Wednesday, July 18, 2007.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This project is supported by the Staff Development budget in the amount of $5,800.

EVALUATION

It is anticipated, that the experience of hearing Dr. Peters, will provide school-based administrators additional tools in their tool box to help teachers better understand their students.
