SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreements for Technical Services for Career and Technical Education Curriculum Writing Project, 2007/2008 - $70,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the attached list of Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to develop curriculum for middle and high school CTE programs. In order to effectively complete the curriculum materials, permission is requested to add and/or delete writers as needed not to exceed the budgeted amount of $70,000.

The curricula will include FCAT-type skills and strategies and integration of rigorous reading, math, science, and writing to ensure that core course concepts are emphasized and reinforced as an integral component of all CTE courses. The curriculum implemented will serve more than 50,000 CTE students.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 – The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 3 – Student performance on FCAT science will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 4 – The percentage of students achieving a score of 4.0 or higher on FCAT writing will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

If approved, project funds of $70,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project 1350, Perkins Secondary Grant.

EVALUATION

July 2009. FCAT reading, mathematics, science, and writing scores for CTE students will be analyzed to determine effectiveness of new curriculum.
