SCHOOL CONCURRENCY UPDATE

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In 2005, Hillsborough County was selected by the State to serve as a Pilot community for development of a School Concurrency program and its associated components. The work products for the pilot program were completed in the summer of 2006. Since that time, each of the local governments and school district staff have been reviewing those products and recommending changes to more closely reflect local conditions. The next step to creating a concurrency program is for each local government to adopt a Public School Facilities Element (PSFE). A schedule for that process has begun with the following schedule in place to begin to transmit the PSFE to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for review. The adoption of these elements will likely be scheduled for late 2007.

August 8th 1:30PM BOCC workshop
August 9th 8:00AM Plant City Planning Board review
August 13th 5:30PM Planning Commission public hearing (all 4 elements)
August 23rd 5:01PM Tampa City Council public hearing
August 23rd 6:00PM BOCC public hearing
August 27th 7:30PM Plant City Commission public hearing
September 4th 7:00PM Temple Terrace City Council public hearing

This workshop will highlight to the School Board some of the changes to the PSFE that have been proposed since the Pilot Program was completed and discuss the next steps to implementing school concurrency.
