Results from the Florida Department of Education (DOE) Data Quality Review of the District’s Data Reporting

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On March 15-16, 2005, the DOE’s Division of Accountability, Research, and Measurement visited the District to conduct a data quality review of the District’s system of data reporting. The purpose of the review, as stated by the DOE, is “to help ensure that school districts meet their statutory responsibilities related to the operation and administration of the data reporting system and to promote accuracy in data reporting. Underscoring the importance of data accuracy is the fact that education decision-makers use the information to make funding, policy, and evaluation decisions.” The review examined the following twelve specific areas: Data Quality, Master School Identification File (MSID), Student Demographic Information, Student and Teacher Course Information, School Environment Safety Incident Report (SESIR), Graduation and Withdrawal, Student End of Year Reporting, Workforce Development Information Systems (WDIS), Florida Automated System for Transferring Educational Records (FASTER), Transportation, School Choice, and Staff. In the twelve areas the District received 49 commendations for outstanding data quality processes and 13 recommendations for suggested changes. Thirty-six District employees participated in various parts of the two day review. The full report is attached for your review.
