Approve the Contract Between the School District of Hillsborough County and the C.E. Mendez Foundation Inc. (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

A Contract for Services has been developed for a pilot program with C.E. Mendez Foundation, Inc. to provide the District with a Raydon-RVD Driver Training Simulator at Bloomingdale High School. The contract provides for the delivery and installation of the simulator, modification of the simulator's software to reflect district curriculum, staff training, and pre and post evaluations of the program. Using the simulator, students will have the opportunity to apply and demonstrate immediately what they have learned in the classroom to actual "hands-on" driving situations without the delay that accompanies getting into real cars. In addition, the simulator provides experience in driving in hazardous conditions such as interstate driving or in thunderstorms which they are not currently provided. This initiative allows schools more flexibility for scheduling students into driver education.

Bloomingdale High School will serve as a pilot and the district and instructors will evaluate the system to determine the feasibility of installing additional simulators at other schools.

Funds of $30,000 are included in the divisional budget for Drivers Education through the Dori Slosberg fund designed to enhance driver education programs. Any additional cost incurred will be the responsibility of the C.E. Mendez Foundation.
