SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Recognition of Partnership to Advance School Success (PASS) Program – Gibsonton Elementary School, Palm River Elementary School, and Leto High School (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We would like to recognize the following PASS corporate partners:

Gibsonton Elementary School
Charles Blumenkamp, recently retired Executive Director of Sales and Marketing for Verizon’s Southeast Region

Palm River Elementary School
Richard Waino, CEO of the Tampa Port Authority

Leto High School
Richard Lobo, President and CEO of WEDU, Channel 3

The Florida Council of 100 developed the Partnership to Advance School Success (PASS) program to close the achievement gap in education. Identified low-performing schools are selected to participate by representatives from the PASS Program. A CEO of a major Florida corporation is teamed with the school principal for three years. The CEO assists in incorporating successful business strategies into school management techniques. In addition to mentoring the principal, the CEO commits funds; matching funds are provided by South Florida Annenberg Challenge/Council for Educational Change and the District. The team works hands-on with an education coach improving operations and academics. The goal of the PASS Program is to raise the school’s grade to an “A” over the three-year life of the partnership.
