Approve Agreement with Polk Community College for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapy Assistant Internships (Exceptional Student Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy (OT/PT) Assistant Intern program with various community colleges has been successful in Hillsborough County Public Schools since 1997. Polk Community College requires students enrolled in their OT/PT Assistant programs to receive clinical experience as part of their instruction.The Department of Exceptional Student Education recognizes the need for trained personnel in OT/PT and has offered to provide to Polk Community College interns the necessary clinical experience with District OT/PT therapists at various school sites. The student interns will assist in assessing, documenting, and developing treatment plans of short-term and long-term goals for students.
District personnel will have the opportunity to observe and evaluate the interns for prospective OT/PT employment.
