Approve Disposal of Portables that are Beyond Economical Repair (BER) (Business Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Per State Statue 274.05 and School Board Policy 7.10, the board may sell, transfer, or dispose of any real or tangible property, which they declare to be unnecessary or unsuitable for district purposes. Due to extensive repairs, the cost of moving and setting up, or the portable no longer meets the standards for student occupancy; the attached list of portables has been declared BER by the Relocatable Facilities Department. Portables that have structural or environmental concerns will be demolished. The remaining portables will be made available as surplus and sold at auction. If no bid is received, the portable will be demolished.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The demolition cost of a portable ranges from $1,800 to $2,000, depending on the quantity to be demolished at the location. The cost of demolition is paid from the Maintenance Portable budget. Any entity that accepts a surplus portable will be responsible for all moving and associated costs. The monies received for any portable sold at auction will be deposited into the General Fund. The Fixed Asset File will be reduced by a net book value of $598,256.83.
