On June 7, 2005, the Hillsborough County School Board approved a three-year contract with Carl Sagan Academy. The contract commenced on June 7, 2005, and ended on June 30, 2008. On March 28, 2008, the Superintendent sent Carl Sagan Academy a 90-day letter due to sustained low student performance. FCAT results received in May 2008 showed limited improvement. Therefore, on June 10, 2008, the Hillsborough County School Board renewed Carl Sagan Academy's contract for one year from August 5, 2008, through June 30, 2009.

On April 17, 2009, the Superintendent sent Carl Sagan a 90-day letter due to continued sustained low student performance, as well as ESE concerns. School grades received in June 2009 revealed a lack of improvement.

Based on the concerns that the School District articulated in their 90-Day letter dated April 17, 2009, the Carl Sagan Academy Board met on July 13, 2009, to discuss the future of the school. The Carl Sagan Academy Board voted to not renew their charter. Attached is a letter from the board chair confirming this action.

Carl Sagan Academy received approximately $466,609 through the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) funding for the 2008/2009 school year. They also received $46,457 in capital outlay money.

There will be no evaluation since the contract is not being renewed.
