Recognition of The Florida Orchestra (Elementary Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Florida Orchestra provides theme-based youth concerts for the Hillsborough County Public School's fourth grade students each year. The youth concerts cultivate an appreciation for the experience of live orchestral music and offer support for music education. This experience is a key element in developing the musical minds of all students. Some of the highlights of this program are:
- Specially designed youth concerts by conductor and educator, Randal Swiggum, for students in the fourth grade
- Unique opportunity for our students to experience a performance by a world-class orchestra in an authentic concert setting
- Eight 45-minute concerts are presented during the school day at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts
- Students and teachers prepare for the concerts through curriculum materials designed and aligned with the Sunshine State Standards for music
- Approximately 10,000 students experience the concerts at a substantial reduction in cost to the district
The district is proud to be an education sponsor with The Florida Orchestra.
