EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The PTA was founded in February of 1897 with the vision of building family - school partnerships. Therefore, "Take Your Family to School Week" is celebrated each year during the month of February by local PTA units who coordinate activities and events for the week in collaboration with the school principal, teachers, and staff.
The National PTA awarded $1,897 to thirty-two PTA Schools nationwide for their innovative initiatives focused on engaging families in their school's "Take Your Family to School" event. We are proud to recognize Freedom High as one of the only two schools from Florida to receive this award from the National PTA. Their "Experience the Difference" program, held during the week of February 15, offered parents and guests the opportunity to walk in a student's shoes by taking "mini" classes that demonstrated the class content that students engage in on a daily basis. Attendees received grades from the teachers at the end of each class! Experience the Difference was intended to showcase the rigor of the high school curriculum and encourage discussion about the expectations for high school students in 2010.
