SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Rental of Tampa Convention Center by Rampello Downtown Partnership K-8 School Spring Performance (Administration Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Each year, the students of Rampello Downtown Partnership K-8 School produce a culminating performance involving all students at the school. This event is an opportunity to showcase the performance groups at Rampello and will take place on May 5, 2010. The student performance cultivates an appreciation for the experience of orchestral music, band music, choral music, and dance and supports performing arts in education. Rampello rented the Tampa Theater last year and sold out of tickets several days before the performance. The school needs 1,000 seats to accommodate our Rampello community, which necessitates the rental of the convention center. This experience is part of the school history and culture and is a key element in developing the creativity of all Rampello students. Some of the highlights of this program are:

•Musical performances include World Drumming, Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Orchestra

•Grade level specific dances and singing from Kindergarten through Grade 5

•Performing dance groups include Ballet 1, Ballet 2, Ballet 3, Lyrical Dance, Tap Dance, and Flamenco Dance

•Students and teachers prepare for the concert through curriculum materials designed and aligned with the Sunshine State Standards for music

•Approximately 500 students experience the opportunity to perform on stage in a professional venue
