Approve Child Care Training Coordination Contract #LC914 with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Learey Technical Center, 2010/2015 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of the Child Care Training Coordination Contract #LC914 with the Florida Department of Children and Families to provide training and competency exams for child care workers in Circuits 6 and 13, Hillsborough and Pasco counties, for a five-year period. The Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) has partnered with Hillsborough County Public Schools for over four decades. The district serves as the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant funds.

* Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum

The total value of the grant is $1,237,430. If approved, state funds of $801,710 will be included in the divisional general operating budget for the five-year child care contract. The $435,720 difference will be generated from the collection of fees for 12 online courses offered through the Department of Children and Families. The monies collected from the online courses that are not used for each fiscal year of the five-year contract will be rolled over to the next fiscal year to cover operating and discretionary expenses. The training programs for child care workers generate Workforce Development Funds.

Success will be based at the end of each fiscal year on the number of child care courses offered and exams administered.
