Approve Contract with AMI Kids - Tampa (Formerly Tampa Marine Institute) (Division of Administration)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

AMI Kids - Tampa provides a 230-day non-residential Dropout Prevention Program for 70 eligible students who are either under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) or assigned through the change of placement process. AMI Kids provides the facility and the personnel for the educational program, with support and oversight by the School District's Youth Services Program. The School District is required to pay private providers like AMI Kids 90% of all FTE revenue earned and provide access to all applicable categorical funds. Additional funds have been provided through Specific Appropriation 86 for a supplemental allocation for Juvenile Justice Education Programs.

The cost of this contract is $295,955.54. This amount is calculated using the projected FTE generated; plus the applicable categorical funds; minus the 10% administrative cost allowed by the Florida Law (HB 1989); and a percentage of the cost of direct instructional services provided by a District ESE Resource Teacher assigned to this site. This item is included in the Part 1 Budget for 2010/2011.

EVALUATION

Each Juvenile Justice Education Program is evaluated annually through a Quality Assurance Review conducted by the Juvenile Justice Enhancement Program (JJEEP). This review will be completed by June 30, 2011.
