Approve Renewal Agreements for Educational Services with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, 2010/2011 (Adult and Community Education)

We request approval of the renewal agreements for the continuation of educational services by the Department of Adult and Community Education to incarcerated adults at facilities operated by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The Agreement for Educational Services (Non-Financial) establishes the responsibilities of the district and the Sheriff's Office for delivery of instruction that includes adult basic education and General Educational Development (GED) preparation, as well as instruction for students seeking to earn a state of Florida high school diploma. In addition, skills training is offered in alterations, carpentry, horticulture, culinary arts, and computer applications.

The Agreement for Educational Services (Financial) renews the commitment by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office - Inmate Canteen Fund to compensate the district at the approved rate for instructional services. The approved rate for 2010/2011 will increase from $2.01 per student hour for vocational skills training to $2.18 per student hour and from $1.00 per student hour for adult general education instruction to $1.08 per student hour.

All Strategic Objectives

Classes generate Workforce Education Fund revenues and are included in the divisional general operating budget. Classroom space is provided at no cost to the district.
