Approve Update to District Technology Plan

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Technology Plan is used to align District strategic goals and objectives to available technologies and resources. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules specify that a technology plan must contain the following five elements to comply with the E-Rate funding program: The plan must establish clear goals and realistic strategy for using telecommunications and information technology to improve education services. The plan must have a professional development strategy to ensure that staff know how to use these new technologies to improve education. The plan must include an assessment of the telecommunication services, hardware, software, and other services that will be needed to improve education. The plan must provide a sufficient budget to acquire and support the non-discounted elements of the plan. The hardware, software, professional development, and other services that will be needed to implement the strategy, and the plan must include an evaluation process that enables the District to monitor progress toward the specified goals and make mid-course corrections in response to new developments and opportunities as they arise. Our District Technology Plan encompasses these requirements.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Included within the Technology Plan are estimated budgets for E-Rate eligible services. The actual financial impact of each project will be determined through normal purchasing processes and individually brought before the School Board for approval. In some instances, projects are funded through grants, and will only go forward if the grant is awarded to the District.

EVALUATION

The Technology Plan includes provisions for evaluating progress toward the plan's goals as well as supporting the District Strategic Plan.
