Approve Addition of Two Broad Residents to the Empowering Effective Teachers Project

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As part of the Empowering Effective Teachers Project, the Broad Foundation has agreed to provide Residents to participating districts. Broad Residents are experienced executives from private industry who are exploring a career change to the field of education and are known nationally for their successful adaptation into new careers. The Foundation accepts applicants from throughout the country, interviews each one, then recommends selected candidates to districts who then complete a local interview process. The two Broad Residents in Hillsborough County will be funded by the Broad Foundation, Gates Foundation, and the Empowering Effective Teachers grant. They will be district employees during their two year residency.

Jamal K. Jenkins, a former executive with Chrysler Corporation, will work as a Manager for Evaluation and Compensation. Jamal worked in Human Resources at Chrysler and also has experience as a recruiter.

Donald Dellavia, a plant manager for Heinz, has experience managing a large work-group as well as developing performance management strategies. Donald will serve as a Manager for Performance Management in Hillsborough County.

Salaries plus benefits amount to $111,601.17 annually and will be funded by the Gates Foundation (50%), Broad Foundation (25%), and the Empowering Effective Teachers Grant (25%).
