Recognition of the 2009/2010 Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. 23rd Annual Essay Contest Winners (Middle/Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Students from district middle and high schools participated in the 2009/2010 Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. 23rd Annual Essay Contest. This annual contest celebrates the achievements in writing by middle and high school students of Hillsborough County as well as the mission of the organization to heighten the awareness of the Hispanic culture and its many contributions to our community, state, and country. Students submitted essays written in either English or Spanish to Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. that addressed the topic, “Hispanics and the Environment: A Challenge."

A panel of area educators and other prominent members of the community judged the essays. Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. announced and recognized the winners of each category at the Essay Contest Awards Brunch held in Ybor City on May 22, 2010. The top three essays in each category received cash awards ranging from $100 to $200. In addition, the teacher of each winner received a cash award for classroom supplies.
