Recognition of Paraprofessional Transition to Teaching Program
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Paraprofessional Transition to Teaching Program (PTTP) began in 2004 under a grant from the US Department of Education. The program was designed to help paraprofessionals who already had an Associate of Arts Degree to enroll in and complete their Bachelor of Education Degree from St. Petersburg College. The program provides scholarships to offset the cost of tuition and offers many classes at Horton Instructional Services Center. In 2009, six paraprofessionals graduated and are now teaching in Hillsborough County Public Schools or charter schools. Six additional paraprofessionals graduated this year (2010) and to date, five have been hired in our district or charter schools. Additional paraprofessionals will graduate next spring (2011) and through 2014.
