EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

During school year 2008-2009, the board approved the implementation of thermal energy storage (ice plants) at five school sites, Bing Elementary, Boyette Springs Elementary, Hunter’s Green Elementary, Schwarzkopf Elementary and Roland Park Middle. As anticipated, the plants saved electrical costs. The combined annual savings was $60,496.

The most revealing site for this technology was Roland Park, where the only significant electrical upgrades were the chillers and ice storage. Roland Park exhibited cost savings of $33,461, which represented a 28.5% decrease from the previous year. This substantiates the technology in a real world application within our District.
