SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

As Required By State Statute, Each School District Must Approve the Distribution of Information to Parents As Prescribed By the Family School Partnership Act. The Required Information Includes, A Parent's Guide to Hillsborough County Public Schools 2007-2008, District Parent/Family Involvement Rules and A Parent's Checklist.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 2003 legislature enacted the Family and School Partnership for Student Achievement Act, section 1002.23, Florida Statutes. This information is to provide parents with specific information about their child's educational progress, provide a framework for building and strengthening the partnership among parents, teachers, principals, superintendent, and other personnel. The law requires each district to develop a parent guide for successful school achievement, to adopt rules that strengthen family involvement, and to develop a self assessment checklist for parents. Assurance of compliance with this statute must be submitted to the Floirda Department of Education by October 1, 2007.

In collaboration with the St. Petersburg Times, A Parent's Guide to Hillsborough County Public Schools is published and distributed to school sites. The parent checklist and family involvement rules are contained within the guide. Each student receives a copy of the guide to take home. Both an English and Spanish edition are distributed. In addition to the distribution that occurs through the school site, a copy is inserted into the newspaper by the publisher for distribution to all subscribers.
