SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Support of the Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) Between Hillsborough County Public Schools, The Hillsborough County Health Department, and Hillsborough County Emergency Management.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Cities Readiness Initiative is a mechanism intended to help save lives through timely delivery of medicines and medical supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile during a large-scale public health emergency. The MOU is this county's plan to comply with the Center for Disease Control's initiative that provides special funding for selected entities, including the Tampa Bay area, to implement a community-wide plan for dispensing medication and medical supplies. In brief, the initiative calls for the dispensing of medications within a 48 hour window after a biological event. The MOU's intent is to use every Hillsborough County Public Elementary School as a Point of Dispensing (POD) because elementary schools are within a reasonable distance of any point in the county. Under the direction of the Hillsborough County Public Health Department and Hillsborough County Emergency Management, the School District's sites and volunteer school personnel would assist in the delivery of this emergency medication as outlined in the MOU.
