EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request the School Board adopt the attached Proclamation for Exceptional Student Education Week for Hillsborough District Schools.

Governor Charlie Crist has designated September 30, 2007 – October 6, 2007, as “Exceptional Student Education Week” to recognize ESE teachers, related personnel, and ESE students and their families.

The Department of Exceptional Student Education provides all exceptional students with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to realize their potential through the provision of individual specialized support. The goal of the district is to provide equal opportunities for the identification, evaluation, and education of exceptional students in the least restrictive environment and to offer a range of placement options using general education classrooms and adapting them to meet the needs of the exceptional student.
