Approve Construction Documents and Guaranteed Maximum Price for Classrooms for Kids Additions at
Benito Middle School and Miles and Pride Elementary Schools

On November 9, 2006, the Board appointed Wilder Architecture, Inc. and Batson-Cook Company to provide design and construction management services. These additions are necessary to meet class size reduction requirements. The scope of work provides for the following additions: 12 classrooms at Benito Middle School, 12 classrooms at Miles Elementary School, and 12 classrooms at Pride Elementary School.

Approval of the guaranteed price will provide a maximum cost for each facility. Project completion is scheduled for June 16, 2008.

Construction cost for Benito Middle School is warranted at $1,910,408, which includes $240,134 for extraordinary conditions (sidewalk demolition, restrooms, extended covered walks, power connections, and low-voltage connections). The construction budget is $1,910,500. Construction cost for Miles Elementary School is warranted at $2,090,809, which includes $296,674 for extraordinary conditions (site compatability, extended covered walks, power connections, and low-voltage connections). The construction budget is $2,090,900. Construction cost for Pride Elementary School is warranted at $2,088,971, which includes $241,092 for extraordinary conditions (temporary road, sidewalks demolition, extended covered walks, power connections, and low-voltage connections).
