SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE Education (Middle School Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to adopt
FCAT Essentials Science, Grade 8, as supplemental instructional material for the Middle School Science Program. The attached memorandum from Andi Ringer, Supervisor, Middle School Science, indicates the FLEX textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to district guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include the following:
- The District FLEX textbook selection committee is trained in the instructional materials evaluation process.
- The FLEX Committee reviews and evaluates submissions using the Florida Department of Education instructional materials evaluation packet.
- The FLEX Committee through a consensus vote recommends instructional materials to be placed on the FLEX list for purchase.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 3 - Student performance on FCAT science will increase a minimum of five percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
This item, costing $9 per book, may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction.
