Approve Change Order No. 1 in the Amount of $40,026.90 Extra, 244 Calendar Day Time Extension, and Change Order No. 2 in the Credit Amount of $136,419.39 for Renovation at
DeSoto Elementary School

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On September 7, 2004, the Board approved the appointment of The Rosier Alliance and JBD Construction, Inc. to provide design and construction management services for renovations at DeSoto Elementary School. On March 14, 2006, the Board approved the reassignment of the contract for design services to RHC, Inc. due to the withdrawal of The Rosier Alliance from the project. (Prior to assuming the role of lead designer, RHC, Inc. was an engineering consultant to The Rosier Alliance on this project.) The scope of work provides for the renovation of gang toilets for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, upgrading of fire alarm and security systems, restoration of wood floors in old classrooms, telephone system replacement, and door hardware replacement for ADA accessibility. Mechanical work includes replacement of four classroom air conditioning units, main electrical switch gear, and electrical panels. Exterior work includes painting, dumpster enclosure relocation, correction of site grading issues, and the addition of perimeter security fencing and gates, bus drop-off canopy, and ramps to provide ADA accessibility.

Change Order No. 1 provides for repair of existing classroom windows, and replacement of ceiling tiles in the cafeteria and classroom/administration buildings. The change order also provides a time extension, required primarily as a result of delays in the acquisition of the necessary easement from the City of Tampa for construction of the bus drop-off and canopy. Change Order No. 2 provides a credit for the direct purchase of materials by the District, in accordance with the Direct Purchase Program.
