SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve $13,688 payment to Erin McGaffney to Serve as Project Manager for Project ELECT (Educating Learners To Engage In Civics Today) (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The United States Department of Education awarded $2,040,147 to Hillsborough County Public Schools to implement the Improve Public Knowledge of and Support for Democracy Grant (Project ELECT), which provides exemplary civics education which includes an understanding of the legislative process and produces knowledgeable citizens who confidently participate in the democratic process.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring Level 3 or higher on FCAT Reading will increase a minimum of five percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

Funding for this project is provided by the United States Department of Education Award #Q304C070025.

EVALUATION

Under the terms of the grant, University of South Florida will evaluate the project. Copies of the final evaluation will be provided to HCPS, Office of Assessment and Accountability by the final evaluation date of March 30, 2009.
