Recognition of Recipients of State and National Awards (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Division of Curriculum and Instruction is very pleased to recognize Hillsborough District students for their outstanding achievements.

National Association of Gifted Children, Distinguished Student Award

The National Association of Gifted Children presented Thomas Hafer, Grade 6 Coleman Middle School student, the prestigious Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award. This award is given to one student in each state who demonstrates excellence in academics, leadership, and the arts. The student was nominated while attending Dale Mabry Elementary School in fifth grade.
Florida Inaugural Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest
Tomlin Middle School student, Elisa Lemerond, has been named by Governor Charlie Crist’s office as the Florida Inaugural Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest winner. Her essay was selected from more than 2,000 middle school entries. Elisa and her family were invited to attend a reception at the governor’s mansion on October 15, 2007. As the winner of the contest, she will receive a four-year full tuition scholarship to any Florida state college or university of her choice, and a laptop computer.
