Approve the Memorandum Agreement with the Tampa Metropolitan YMCA for the Development of Services for Select Youth (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

The School District has had a working relationship with the Tampa Metropolitan YMCA for several years. This Memorandum of Understanding further describes joint efforts at Buchanan Middle School and Sulphur Springs Elementary. These two schools serve as pilot sites with the YMCA staff to promote safe schools, family involvement, community support, improved academic success and student engagement. Services are provided to students, families and faculties based upon the unique needs of each school. This memorandum also describes the process for expansion of services by the provider based upon a review of program evaluations with the assistance of the Supervisor of Title I Parent Involvement, Supervisor of School Social Work and select principals.

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

The cost for these services is provided by the Tampa Metropolitan YMCA from state and local grant funds. Additional funding for these joint ventures will be sought by the provider with input from designated district staff. As appropriate, the Hillsborough County Public Schools will provide space at the sites for program services.

The provider will submit program evaluation data to district and school-based staffs at the end of the 2007-08. Evaluation data will be utilized for program review and planning purposes for the 2008-09 year.
