SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Technical Services Agreement with Dr. Stephen Peters in Conjunction with the Peters Group to Provide Public Behavior and Etiquette Training for At Risk Young Men at Blake High School (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Gentlemen’s Club meet weekly with 30 at risk Black and Hispanic male students at Blake High School. The purpose of this program is to provide academic, social, and emotional skills to students who have shown a need to learn the finer points of behavior and etiquette. These academic skills will be accomplished by providing tutoring, visits to restaurants, art galleries, and college campuses for the young men chosen to participate in this club. Through the efforts of the Gentlemen’s Club, young men will have an opportunity to take pride in their accomplishments and become productive citizen.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The amount of $12,500 will be funded from Title I funds.

EVALUATION

The students selected to participate in the Gentlemen’s Club will be followed throughout their high school years. After completing high school, each student who graduates will receive $1,000 from the Peters Foundation toward their college career.
