Approve Cost Reimbursable Subagreement #830-0474-00-J with University of South Florida (USF) for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), CFDA #84.334 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This project will be implemented at Hillsborough High School between January 8, 2008, and May 30, 2008. The project will provide comprehensive services to students to close the achievement gap and prepare them for participation in higher education through an intensive tutoring program occurring after school and on Saturdays. The program will incorporate activities, supplies, and program expenses necessary to serve 50-100 students. Partners include the Hillsborough Education Foundation and the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. Under the subagreement, Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) will provide teachers, staff and facilities for the after school and Saturday program, and technical assistance to the USF evaluation team by providing data as needed. Grant funds in the amount of $11,994.56 will pay for teacher and staff salaries, professional development, and supplies.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

GOAL 5 - The District will eliminate FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

USF agrees to compensate HCPS on a cost reimbursement basis for activities occurring between January 8, 2008, and May 30, 2008, for an amount not to exceed $11,994.56.

EVALUATION

Under the terms of the grant, USF is responsible for the project evaluation. HCPS will collect and provide assessment data to the outside evaluator for the grant. The outside evaluator will provide a copy of the annual evaluation report and final evaluation report to HCPS Office of Assessment and Accountability. The anticipated date for project evaluation for the 2007-2008 school year is December 30, 2008.
