Approve Change Order No. 9 in the Amount of $5,760.61 Extra for
Classrooms for Kids Package 5

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On September 7, 2004, the Board appointed Atelier AEC, Inc. and Christiano Construction Company, Inc. to provide design and construction management services for classroom additions at Brooker, Temple Terrace and Yates Elementary Schools, and Burns Middle School. On March 14, 2005, additions at Tampa Palms and Chiles Elementary Schools were added to the package. These additions are necessary to meet class size reduction requirements. The scope of work provides for the following additions: 18 classrooms at Brooker, 16 classrooms at Chiles (increased from 8 in the initial scope), 12 classrooms at Tampa Palms, 14 classrooms at Temple Terrace, 12 classrooms at Yates, and 12 classrooms plus group toilets at Burns.

The Board previously approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the project, that included the 8 classroom addition at Chiles. When the size of the Chiles addition was increased to 16 classrooms, Chiles was removed from the scope of the GMP for the package. The Board subsequently approved a separate GMP for Chiles on July 12, 2005.

This change order provides for final reconciliation of the Direct Purchase Program for the Tampa Palms Elementary School classroom addition. The direct purchases for the other schools in the package (except for Chiles, which is addressed by another GMP) were reconciled in a previous change order approved by the Board on May 19, 2007.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

These items are included in the District Capital Outlay and are funded as follows: $6,572,594 for Classrooms for Kids (Brooker, Temple Terrace, and Yates Elementary Schools and Burns Middle School) and $2,935,406 for Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) Construction (Chiles and Tampa Palms Elementary Schools).
