Adoption of Proclamation - "Music in Our Schools Month" - March 2008 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request that the School Board adopt the attached proclamation designating the month of March 2008 as “Music in Our Schools Month” in Hillsborough District schools.

The National Association for Music Education has designated March 2008 as “Music in Our Schools Month.” Attached is a proclamation that the Hillsborough County Public Schools will observe the month of March, as “Music in Our Schools Month.” The theme for this year’s activities is “Music Touches Lives!”

“Music in Our Schools Month” is a time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. This is an excellent opportunity for students to share musical ideas and accomplishments with their families, friends, and communities.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Activities for "Music in Our Schools Month" are integrated into the standard curriculum with no additional cost to the district.
