SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Contract for Community Charter School of Excellence (Tampa Charter School of Excellence)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Charter school legislation, 1002.33, F.S., permits individuals, organizations and community members the opportunity to submit an application to the School Board for the creation of a charter school. On October 16, 2007, the School Board approved the application for Community Charter School of Excellence, (Tampa Charter School of Excellence). Attached is the Board Resolution from the Tampa Charter School of Excellence changing their name to Community Charter School of Excellence.

Community Charter School of Excellence will be located at 10948 North Central Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612. The school will serve students in grades K-5. The curricular focus will be primarily centered on a comprehensive instructional program with special emphasis on arts and technology and employ the Core Knowledge model for school curriculum.

A copy of the proposed five-year contract for the school is attached. The original charter application approved by the School Board will become Appendix I of this contract and will be available for review in the School Board Office. The school’s academic goals and objectives are found in Appendix II. Appendix III includes the evaluation tool used for the principal. In the event there is a discrepancy between the contract and the charter application, the terms of the contract will prevail. Community Charter School of Excellence has agreed to all terms of the contract, which has been revised to include the most recent revisions to 1002.33, F.S.

A copy of the application review summary is attached indicating where weaknesses are addressed in the contract.
