2008 Extended School Year Program (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Extended School Year Program (June and July) is designed to focus on students needing additional instructional time as well as enrichment programs. An Extended School Year committee consisting of teachers, principals, assistant principals, and district staff developed a program plan for 2008. The Extended School Year Program supports the District Student Progression Plan by addressing options available to students, optimizing the use of Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) funds, Title I and Title III funds, fee-based programs, Workforce Education funds, community partnerships, and grant programs.

The attached Extended School Year program booklet is primarily used as an "in-house" document to organize and communicate with district staff. Additional communication will be as follows:

  • Information regarding the Extended School Year opportunities will be communicated with employees via a link on the IDEAS desktop. In addition to the IDEAS link, all principals, assistant principals, and Extended School Year Program Facilitators will participate in meetings that will enable them to support successful preparation for and implementation of the program.
  • In addition to a link on the SDHC Home Page, students and parents of students who are to attend will receive a letter which indicates the reason the child has been recommended for attendance. This letter will be delivered in a manner that best ensures that the parents have been informed of the need for their child’s participation.
