SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Facilitators/Trainers to Assist in Obtaining District Accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), 2008/2009 - $40,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to contract with various facilitators and trainers to assist and provide staff development to obtain district accreditation for all schools through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). Agreements for Technical Services will not exceed the budgeted amount of $40,000.

On May 29, 2007, the School Board approved the concept of seeking district accreditation for all Hillsborough County Public Schools. Earning the level of district accreditation demonstrates that a school district is embracing the improvement of student learning as a systemic process across all schools (elementary, middle, and high school). The accreditation process shows that the district’s framework for continuous improvement is consistent and unified both horizontally and vertically, with each school’s improvement goals supporting the district goals. Specifically, the district must demonstrate meeting high standards in seven specific areas:

  1. Vision and Purpose
  2. Governance and Leadership
  3. Teaching and Learning
  4. Documenting and Using Results
  5. Resources and Support Systems
  6. Stakeholder Communications and Relations
  7. Commitment to Continuous Improvement
The various facilitators/trainers will 1) ensure that the district is a candidate for accreditation on all seven standards, 2) guide the district through an internal review process to identify areas of strengths and areas of recommendation, 3) complete the SACS Self-Assessment Report, 4) prepare the district for the Quality Assurance Review Visit, 5) strengthen Standard Four (the district’s comprehensive assessment system that monitors, documents, and uses these results to improve student performance), 6) plan and host the Quality Assurance Review Team Visit, 7) provide staff development to district and school staff, and 8) communicate the findings to the community. The attached document outlines the duties of the facilitators.
