Current Status of New School Openings and Attendance Boundary Adjustments

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The purpose of this portion of the workshop is to inform the School Board of the current status of new school attendance boundaries and attendance boundary adjustments related to over-capacity schools and the impact of full implementation of class-size-reduction mandates. The attached document outlines specific schools and school attendance boundaries currently under review and recommendations for attendance boundary adjustments. The District's two major goals pertaining to student placement are the enhancement of student academic performance and the promotion of student diversity in all district schools.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

The School Board shall establish residential attendance zones for each school. All students, unless otherwise provided by School Board rule or authorized by School Board order, shall attend the school serving the student’s residential attendance zone. A student’s residence is defined as the residence of his or her parent(s), legal custodian or other such person as defined by any order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction of the State of Florida.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

There is no financial impact to the District.
