Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for K-8 EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION READING AND WRITING and K-12 SPEECH/LANGUAGE EDUCATION (Exceptional Student Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to adopt the attached K-8 Exceptional Student Education Reading and Writing and K-12 Speech/Language Education materials as supplemental materials for the Exceptional Student Education Program. The attached memorandum from Sheryl Koscso, Supervisor, ESE Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, indicates the FLEX textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to district guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include the following:
- The District FLEX textbook selection committee is trained in the instructional materials evaluation process.
- The FLEX Committee reviews and evaluates submissions using the Florida Department of Education instructional materials evaluation packet.
- The FLEX Committee through a consensus vote recommends instructional materials to be placed on the FLEX list for purchase.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated five-year cost is $135,000.
