Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as State-Adopted Instructional Materials for K-8 ESE READING (Exceptional Student Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to adopt the recommended state-adopted instructional materials selected for the K-8 ESE Reading Program. The textbooks for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Reading include Reading Mastery Signature Education and Reach Higher including Corrective Reading. The attached memorandum from Sheryl Koscso, Supervisor, ESE Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, indicates the state-adopted textbook committee studied and recommended the listed instructional materials according to District Guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include the following:

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated cost of the primary textbooks for K-8 ESE Reading over the next five years is $2,026,000.
