Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as State-Adopted Instructional Materials for MIDDLE SCHOOL READING Education (Middle School Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to adopt the recommended state-adopted instructional materials for the Middle School Reading Program. The attached memorandum from Lynn Dougherty-Underwood, Supervisor, Middle/Secondary Reading, indicates the textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to District guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include:

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of five percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated cost of the primary textbooks for Middle School Reading for 2008/2009 is $3,107,280.
