Transportation Reorganization Plan Cost Savings Update

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

An analysis was performed on diesel fuel consumption at the primary fueling site for Area V at Eisenhower Middle School. The analysis drew upon the assumption that with the restructuring of runs under the Universal Route Standards, fewer bus stops would equate to less diesel fuel used. With functionally the same amount of field trips taking place and no changes to the compounding schemes of buses from 2006 to 2007, 17,406 fewer gallons of diesel were used in 2007 versus 2006, 17,406 gallons of diesel equals a savings of $46,648.00. In the Fleet Maintenance section, additional cost savings have been realized in engine rebuilds and warehouse inventory reductions. Effective January 8, 2008, the fuel cost savings on district vehicles is, on average, $615.74 per month.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

These cost savings are in-line with the efficiency efforts being made in both the internal procedures in Transportation as well as the method in which bus services are provided to students.
