Student Safety/Employment of Teachers (Added Attachments)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Recently the school board requested that staff prepare a summary of the hiring procedures and monitoring procedures for instructional personnel. Additionally, the board wanted to review all possible solutions for the recent student/teacher relationships deemed inappropriate. Attachments A - G are provided for the board in order to review the processes utilized by staff before employing individuals, documents shared with principals, current ethics training for instructional personnel and proposed Senate Bill 1712.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Re-fingerprinting and monitoring fees for current employees = $250,000.00 per year (Part I budget). Code of Ethics training and materials for new teachers = $8,000.00 per year (Title II budget).
