Approve Contract with Enable Business Development Institute, LLC to Provide Teachers with an Entrepreneurial Train the Trainer Program (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In March of this year, the Florida Department of Education allocated additional Title I dollars to Hillsborough County Public Schools for the purposes of impacting populations at risk of dropping out of school. These dollars are required to be expended by the conclusion of this year’s fiscal budget period. Enable Business Development Institute, LLC will provide training for up to 15 teachers who will apply skills learned in the training to implement Junior Achievement’s “It’s My Business” model with middle school students during the 2008/09 school year. The Entrepreneurial Train the Trainer Program will consist of entrepreneurship training, instructional application of Junior Achievement’s “It’s My Business” model, and the development of a Connect the Community and Family Workshop to further support young entrepreneurs. This contract pays for the cost of all trainers, training materials, and stipend payments to all participating teachers for the 10 week course.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This contract will be paid using Title I funds in the amount of $25,470.

EVALUATION

Enable Business Development Institute, LLC will conduct a knowledge assessment of all participants at the conclusion of each session. This evaluation will determine the level of readiness of each participant in implementing the Junior Achievement concepts in their instructional program. The District will collect these assessments as well as conduct follow up observations during October 2008 to determine the effectiveness that the training had on the individual teachers’ instructional implementation. A survey will be conducted with each teacher at that time. This information will be used to determine future contracts.
