SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Change Order No. 1 in the Amount of $19,723.95 Net Credit, a Time Extension of 90 Calendar Days, and Acceptance of Project for Athletic Track and Parking Area Asphalt Paving at Various Schools

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The project was planned by the engineering firm of Kisinger Campo & Associates. On May 29, 2007 the Board awarded the contract to the low bidder, Alto Construction Company, Inc. The scope of work provided for resurfacing of athletic tracks at Armwood High School, East Bay High, Coleman Middle School, and Van Buren Middle School; and parking lots at Kenly Elementary School, Lake Magdalene Elementary School, Adams Middle School, Greco Middle School, Webb Middle School, and the 40th Street Bus Transfer Station. A rubberized track surface was installed at Armwood High School in lieu of asphalt resurfacing.

Change Order No. 1 provides for removal of the long jump pits from the scope of resurfacing work at Armwood High School, East Bay High School, and Van Buren Middle School; and removal of the resurfacing of the long jump pits and restriping at Coleman Middle School. The change order also provides for additional District-requested work as follows: addition of a handicapped access ramp at Kenly Elementary; additional car stops at Adams and Webb Middle Schools; sod and irrigation repairs at Coleman Middle School; additional striping at Greco Middle School; and temporary fencing at Van Buren Middle School. The change order also provides for increased costs associated with unforeseen underground conditions at Van Buren and Webb Middle Schools, and additional costs and a time-extension of 90 calendar days for the work at the 40th Street Bus Transfer Station and Webb Middle School to accommodate District-required schedule changes.

The engineer advises that the referenced project is finally complete in accordance with the plans and specifications and other contract documents and recommends Board acceptance.
