SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Contract with Child Care Solutions Unlimited To Provide Summer Program Activities to Elementary Students and Their Families Residing In The East Tampa Zip Codes 33603, 33604, 33605, 33610, and 33619 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In March of this year, the Florida Department of Education allocated additional Title I dollars to Hillsborough County Public Schools for the purpose of impacting populations at risk of dropping out of school. These dollars are required to be expended by the conclusion of this year’s fiscal budget period. Child Care Solutions Unlimited’s Summer Connect4Success Program will utilize drop out prevention best practices and will incorporate cooperative learning, service learning, skill building activities, along with parent and professional staff development. Program trainings and activities will focus on social responsibility, character education, caring and effective communication, goal setting, conflict resolution and life skill development. The summer program will culminate with a “Community Pride Day” which will be planned by the students and parents. Students and parents will design a plan of success for their home, school and community for the 2008/09 school year.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This contract will be paid using Title I funds in the amount of $27,210.

EVALUATION

By November 1, 2008, a series of outcome measures will be evaluated to determine the impact of the Connect4Success Summer Program. Student, parent, and teacher survey results will be reviewed. Student achievement and behavior data will also be reviewed. The district will utilize this data to determine program success.
