Overview of EXCELerator Program With Emphasis on AVID and SpringBoard

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

HCPS has been in partnership with the CollegeBoard in the EXCELerator Program since January 2008. The District has had the AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination program for approximately five years. The AVID program is a strong connection to the EXCELerator program, as it targets students in the academic middle. AVID provides support, tutoring, organizational skills, and instills a college going culture. Currently, we have 13 middle schools and 7 high schools serving approximately 2,000 students.

An AVID student will speak about the program and the impact it has had on his education. We will hear a brief overview from an AVID teacher, and a SpringBoard teacher will highlight the program and the implementation plan for the next school year.
