EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services mandates that all approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programs maintain program oversight by a Medical Director to ensure that all instruction meets the training and qualifications protocols. In addition to overseeing the program, Dr. Nelson also serves as the chairperson of the EMT advisory committee and acts as liaison with local medical providers.
The Medical Director actively participates in teaching and verifying student competency hours as well as the selection of program faculty and students. The Medical Director maintains substantial knowledge in all aspects of emergency medicine in Florida, acts as a crew member on an Emergency Medical Services vehicle at least 10 hours per year, and participates in state and local quality assurance programs.
